Welcome to the Stone Age of Agents

The Stone Age marked the dawn of human intelligence — but not because we suddenly became chess grandmasters or solved complex equations.

It started because humans learned how to use tools.

Once we shaped tools, those tools shaped us. They extended our abilities, changed how we thought, and made us capable of things we couldn’t imagine before. For example: chimpanzees have better short-term memory than us — but we don’t need it anymore, because we learned to write things down.

Our intelligence has always been about extending ourselves through tools.

And now, our agents are entering their own Stone Age.

Agents That Don’t Just Use Tools — They Think With Them

Until now, agents were good at responding to questions or performing a single task. But the new generation of agents does more:

  • They can plan, not just react.

  • They can work with multiple pieces of information at once.

  • They can explore, iterate, and learn from mistakes.

In other words, they’re not just using tools — they’re thinking with them.

How to Get the Best Out of Your Agent

Think of your agent like a new team member. The better you onboard them, the better they’ll perform.

When you ask your agent to do something, give it a compass, not just a one-off command.

Here’s how:

  • Explain what the project is about.

  • Tell it which files or data to start with.

  • Describe how things are organized.

  • Share any industry or product-specific terms.

  • Define what “done well” looks like.

And when it gets something wrong, instead of saying “That’s wrong”, try asking:

  • “What does that teach you?”

  • “What did we learn from trying that?”

This way, you’re not just correcting the agent — you’re helping it improve and work like a true teammate.

A New Era for How We Work With AI

This is just the start. Like the Stone Age, these are the first tools that will change how we think, work, and build.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more tips on how to work with your agents — starting with a practical guide that will be posted in our Community Page.

Your feedback will shape where this goes next. We’re excited to build this new era of AI-powered work with you.
